When was the last time last time you fasted? When was the last time you abstained from food and other life pleasures in order to create an impact in your mind, body and spirit? Some people do dry fasts where you do not eat or drink anything for a specified period of time. Others may decide to drink water during that time. Another way is to eat only fruits and vegetables. Regardless of what method you choose, fasting can be spiritually and physically beneficial and heal and promote positive growth in many areas. Jesus and Moses fasted for 40 days. This gives us a clue that there must be something very intriguing and beneficial about fasting.
One variation of fasting that has become very popular over the years especially among those looking for a breakthrough in healing the body, has been the ‘Daniel Fast’ or ‘Daniel Diet’. So many people have reported amazing and mind-blowing results from doing this particular fast. But what does it consist of?
The Daniel Diet origins come from the Holy Bible; it is no surprise that the Daniel fast has something to do with the prophet Daniel. Daniel 10: 2-3, which says, “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” That explains it all.
First of all, there are so many benefits from following this diet. Daniel 1:15 states “At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.” People have received breakthroughs because of this diet. Some peculiar breakthroughs like financial elevation, emotional relief, spiritual revelations and physical transformations have been reported by both non-Christians and Christians who have done this fast.
One very important question people interested in doing this diet often ask is where their protein will come from since the diet excludes the consumption of meats or any animal products. They also ask what they can eat or drink on the Daniel Fast and how long they should do it for.
BEVERAGE
The best beverage to drink overall is well, water(preferably distilled or spring). But you can have pure organic coconut water, vegetable juice and plant milk like from almond or coconut.
Avoid the following: sweet drinks, fruit juices(even natural ones), energy drinks, coffee, and alcohol.
FRUITS and VEGETABLES
These can be eaten fresh, frozen, or cooked, but not canned. Dried fruits with no additives are allowed. Eat fruits in moderation. Eat more of grapefruits, strawberries, apples, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, grapes, oranges, celery, cucumbers, green leafy and cruciferous vegetables like kale, sinach, broccoli, bitterleaf, pumpkin leaves. These particular fruits and vegetables do not raise your blood sugar levels as high as others.
Avoid the following: fruits like kiwi, watermelon, dates, beets, and non organic produce.
GRAINS, NUTS, and SEEDS
Consume them as whole as possible. Sprout them (soak in water for at least 8 hours) before consumption. Recommended grains are quinoa, barley, amaranth, groats (not oats), flax, chia and hemp seeds.
Avoid the following: wheat (because wheat today has been highly hybridized and contain proteins like gluten which slowly damages the stomach lining and slows down proper digestion), all pastas, breads and cookies.
OTHER POINTERS
Avoid gums and mints because they are full of artificial sweeteners and appetite stimulants. You many chew and spit out if you really desire fresh breath.
No animal products are allowed so no beef, chicken, fish, seafood, etc.
How long should you be on this fast or diet? If you decide to take this on as a new way of eating for you, then there is no duration. You can also decide to do it short term for great results by either taking a ten-day or twenty-one-day Daniel Fast. Benefits from this fast include but are not limited to improving overall energy, promoting natural healing from diseases, rejuvenating skin, improving clarity of mind and critical thinking, boosting overall immune systems and alleviating allergies, stopping addiction to substances like nicotine and alcohol, and aiding in weight loss.
